World leaders in steel and mining, Arcelor Mittal approach Wheelwash to install two systems in Northern Spain

Arcelor Mittal is the world’s leading steel and mining company. Their steel plant in Asturias, Northern Spain required two wheel wash systems due to local government restrictions on the site which has 800 truck movements daily onto main roads with debris.

Wheelwash UK liaised with their Spanish representative Irimac S.L to provide a swift solution. Two 6m Ecowashplatforms with independent control cabins were supplied with Irimac delivering the wash platform, screens, piping, control panels and cabin. Civil engineering was completed by Dragados, one of the largest infrastructure companies in Spain.

The two Wheelwash platforms are positioned side by side working independently. One system is followed by aweigh bridge for trucks requiring weighing before leaving the plant. Each system is connected to 3x8.3kwsubmersible wash pumps located in the concrete settlement tank, totalling 235m3. Two pumps work per wash on a rotation basis so each pump duty is shared.

This project highlighted the need for unique features which Wheelwash sought to provide, tailoring a bespoke solution. The addition of a pressure gauge enabled site workers to visualise the water pressure with ease during each wash, whilst a flexible lay flat pipe was used to reduce the weight for ease of lifting the water pumps during maintenance checks.

The Wheelwash export team worked in tandem with Irimac to deliver and install the two Ecowash systems to the steel plant without affecting the day to day operations of Arcelor Mittal. Full training was also provided and of course, the two systems are backed up by technical support and outstanding customer service.

This project continues to strengthen the export portfolio of Wheelwash, recent winners of ‘Exporter of the Year 2015’ awarded to Wheelwash from the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce.
